Language Arts Strategies
Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.
Goals: By the end of the 22-23 school year, 80% of K students will will score at or above the grade level benchmark according to the PALS/iReady assessment.
By the end of the 22-23 school year, 80% of 1st- 6th grade students will score at or approaching grade level benchmark in Phonological Awareness and Phonics according to the iReady.
By the end of the 22-23 school year, 80% of 1st-6th grade students on grade level will make one year of growth on the Developmental Spelling Assessment.
By the end of the 22-23 school year, 80% of 3rd - 6th grade students will pass the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment in Language Arts.
By the end of the 22-23 school year, 25% of 3rd - 6th grade students will pass ADVANCED the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment in Language Arts.
By the end of the 22-23 school year, 55% of 3rd - 6th grade SWD students will pass the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment in Language Arts.
By the end of the 22-23 school year, 50% of 3rd - 6th grade ELLs will pass the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment in Language Arts.
Strategy 1: Use evidence based literacy practices to explicitly and systematically teach the skills necessary for FLUENT WORD READING in the core language arts block using opportunities for oral language.
Strategy 2: Use evidence based intervention resources aligned to the Science of Reading to provide literacy intervention.
Strategy 3: Families will have the opportunity to engage and learn about the Science of Reading and how to support their student/s.
Mathematics Strategies
Outcome: : Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.
Goals: 80 % of students in grades 3-6 will score pass/advanced on the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment.
80 % of students in grades 1-2 will meet grade level expectations for AVMR on NID, FNWS, BNWS and Structuring assessments.
80% of students in grade K will meet grade level expectations on EMAS raw scores.
Strategy 1: Teams will progress from show-and-tell toward SHARE-AND-COMPARE instructional best practice.
Strategy 2: SPED and ESOL teachers will collaborate with classroom teachers to support the sophistication of strategies and language to share and connect student thinking.
Strategy 3: Engage families in shared learning around best practices in math instruction.
Wellness Strategies
Outcome: Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.
Goals: By the end of the 2022-2023 school year, our school will utilize Morning Meeting and Closing Circle effectively to build relationships, teach self-management skills, teach social awareness skills, increasing schoolwide scores on the Self Management topic and social awareness topic of the SEL Screener by 10%. (Self-Management from 42% to 52%; Social Awareness from 45% to 55%)
Strategy 1: Develop adults foundational knowledge and implement required practices and tools to include: Responsive Classroom, Self-Management Skills, and Social Awareness Skills.
Strategy 2: Provide targeted or intensive interventions for students to support needs at Tier 2 & 3.
Strategy 3: Model required practices in adult meetings to foster relationships, buy in and learning.
Portrait of a Graduate Strategies
Outcome: All students will complete a POG POL by 2025-2026.
Goal: 100% of students will demonstrate increased understanding of POG as reported on a student survey given at the beginning and end of the year.
Strategy 1: The school will build an understanding with students, staff about why POG attributes (specifically Communicator & Collaborator) and skills positively impact students within and beyond school.
Strategy 2: The school will build an understanding the community about why POG attributes (specifically Communicator & Collaborator) and skills positively impact students within and beyond school.
Strategy 3: A Pilot Group of Teachers will begin to align content knowledge and skills and implement units, structures, strategies focused on POG attributes and skills to build teacher leaders for Year 2 of Implementation.
