Language Arts Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.

Goal: By June 2024, 77% of English Language Learners in grades 1-3 will meet their within year growth target as measured by iReady. 

Strategy 1: Increase interdisciplinary opportunities to build language and SEL skill development across content areas and throughout the school day. (HLP 1, 3)

Strategy 2: Expand access to evidence-based tier 1 instruction as well as intervention for students demonstrating risk in a multi-tiered system of supports. (HLP 1-5)

Strategy 3: Expand use of conversation structures to increase academic talk and build relationships among students. (HLP 1, 3)

Mathematics Strategies

Outcome: : Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.

Goal: By June 2024, the percentage students demonstrating strengths in probability and statistics, patterns, functions, and algebra (RC 4) will increase from 34% to 44% according the SOL. 

Strategy 1: Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

Strategy 2: Increase teachers implementation strategies related to Shift 4: from show and tell to share and compare.

Strategy 3: Use conversation structures to increase academic talk between students..

Wellness Strategies

Outcome: Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.

Goal: By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, our school will increase schoolwide scores on the Self Management topic and social awareness topic of the SEL Screener by 10% from 41% to 51%.

Strategy 1: Develop staff knowledge of required practices and tools to include: Responsive Classroom, Self-Management Skills, and Social Awareness Skills. 

Strategy 2: Provide differentiated, targeted and/or intensive interventions and supports for all students 

Strategy 3: We will plan targeted family engagement and learning opportunities around how to support students with SEL skills at home and to support an effective family /school partnership. 

Portrait of a Graduate Strategies

Outcome: All students will complete a POG POL by 2025-2026.

Goal: 100% of students will demonstrate increased understanding of POG as reported on a student survey given at the beginning and end of the year. 

Strategy 1: The school will build an understanding with students, staff about why POG attributes (specifically Communicator & Collaborator) and skills positively impact students within and beyond school.

Strategy 2: The school will build an understanding the community about why POG attributes (specifically Communicator & Collaborator) and skills positively impact students within and beyond school.

Strategy 3: A Pilot Group of Teachers will begin to align content knowledge and skills and implement units, structures, strategies focused on POG attributes and skills to build teacher leaders for Year 2 of Implementation.
