Language Arts Strategies

Outcome 1: By June 2025, the percentage of Multilingual Learners who demonstrate reading proficiency will increase by 5 percentage points from 40% to 45% as measured by the unadjusted pass rate on the 2025 Reading SOL.

Outcome 2: By June 2025, 76% or more of the students in grade 3-6 will achieve a pass/pass advanced score as measured by the unadjusted pass rate on the Virginia Reading SOL scores.

Strategy 1: Increase use of data to plan instruction and monitor progress during intervention to ensure that students demonstrating risk master foundational skills.

Strategy 2: Increase efficiency of instructional delivery to ensure all students have daily access to all components of the language arts block as outlined in the new core curriculum.

Strategy 3: Increase opportunities for English Language Development through use of embedded strategies during whole group instruction and intentional small group instruction focused on specific student needs.

Mathematics Strategies

Outcome 1: By the end of the 2024-25 school year the unadjusted percentage of students with disabilities passing the G3-6 Mathematics SOL will increase from 37% to 42%.

Outcome 2: By reducing the failure rate, we are increasing student success and make progress towards the goal of all students participating in Algebra 1 by 8th grade.

Strategy 1: Increase teachers' content knowledge and implementation of the 2023 FCPS mathematics program of studies.

Strategy 2: Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

Strategy 3: Increase teacher's implementation of strategies and conversation structures that increase academic talk between students related to Shift 4: from show and tell to share and compare.

Portrait of a Graduate

Outcome: 100% of students in Kindergarten thru 2nd Grade will "get started" by scoring at least proficient on Criterion 3 of the POG POL rubric; 100% of students in Grades 3-6 will "make progress" by scoring at least proficient on Criterion 1 & 3 of the POG POL rubric.

Strategy 1: Dedicate time for regular student reflection (Resource 1; Resource 2 for IB Schools) - such as turn and talks, quick writes, or silent thinking to self - to process the POG/ATL skills they utilized during meaningful learning experiences and consider how they can continue to grow.

Strategy 2: Make explicit connections to POG skills and attributes (Resource 1) in daily lessons; if at an IB school, make explicit connections to ATL skills in daily lessons (Resource 2).
