Welcome to Sixth Grade!
Our sixth graders are preparing for their transition to middle school and becoming avid problem solvers equipped with 21st century skills. At Forest Edge our students develop organizational skills in a safe and comfortable environment while growing as independent learners. Curriculum is differentiated to provide qualifying students with Advanced Academic Program instruction. These advanced strategies are used to further close the gap for all learners and challenge students to reach their full potential through rigorous instructional activities.
In language arts, we dissect the English language and study Greek/Latin roots. Rich discussion takes place around a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts. Math instruction builds upon problem solving and critical thinking skills through rich, real-world activities, while exposing students to middle school content. In social studies, we explore the complexities of human interactions throughout history by utilizing problem based learning and simulations. Finally, science provides an opportunity for our sixth graders to explore weather, space, and chemistry through hands-on experiments.
