📝 Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Later this month, you will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level on FCPS’ website.

How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret the test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s teacher with any testing questions.

📈 New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests

Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE

Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more. To create a new account, please contact Yvanna Yearout for an activation letter.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View more information

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.  Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine. Get more information on all student immunization requirements.

💪 Let's Finish the School Year Strong!

Student attendance at school is important all year long, up to the last day of school. Attendance has an effect on student performance and on school accreditation. See how to:

  • Check your child’s attendance record.
  • Help your student stay engaged at school.
  • Report future absences.
  • Understand the FCPS school calendar.

Learn more about attendance resources.

🖍️ It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us plan, so that we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

We are happy to support families with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For more information in other languages, visit FCPS’ Kindergarten Registration webpage.

Family Liaison

Personal Background
Hi , my name is Huda Osman I am from Sudan, I came to the US in 2007
I am married and have three daughters in FCPS.  I speak Arabic and English.

Professional Background:

I graduated from school of medicine in Sudan in the year 2000,and I worked as a medical doctor for 6 years. Then I chose to stay home to be with my family raising my kids because I know the first years of the child's life are the most crucial.

Studying medicine and being a doctor has helped me a lot in understanding human beings and life and how nature is wonderful. From that one tiny cell a whole life is born full of wonders, excitement, hopes that can change the whole world.

Working in the medical field was a big way to help people {which I enjoyed} especially in a country like Sudan where the medical field is not updated and resources are not easy to reach.

I am currently training to be a family liaisonI i'll be using my experience and interpersonal skills as much as I can to help families in my community and all communities. I hope to bring about positive change.

Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day - Wednesday, May 8th

This Wednesday, May 8, Forest Edge will be participating in Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day.   We’re trying to have as many students that can walk, bike, ride a scooter, roller skate, in-line skate, or any other way to roll to get to school.  The program’s intent is to encourage physical active, alternative commuter choices, and to build community.  It’s also a great opportunity to learn and promote safety.  We encourage everyone to wear a helmet when riding, use only the crosswalks, walk in groups with adults, and going on safe routes to the school.  Join in the fun with schools across the country!

See the school year calendar.

☀️ Save the Date for FCPS’ Summer Extravaganza

Don’t miss a day of family fun and learning at the FCPS Summer Extravaganza!

Stop by Woodson High School on Saturday, June 1, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., where students will be able to take part in engaging educational activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire growth.

Representatives from local businesses, Fairfax County Public Library, and the Fairfax County Park Authority are participating in the Summer Extravaganza. Community organizations, such as Neighborhood Community Services, will be at the event as well. All will have learning activities, tips, and helpful information for families. Enjoy face painting, food, music, a moon bounce, a petting zoo, storytime, and student performances — all at no cost!

Visit the Summer Extravaganza webpage for more details and register to attend. Registration is not required, but it's helpful for planning purposes.

Get2Green Leader Enjoys All the Possibilities of Connecting Students with Nature

Erika Thompson has always loved spending time outside and growing plants. As an advanced academic resource teacher at Forest Edge Elementary School, she has found a way to combine that interest with her role as an educator through Get2Green

Last year, Forest Edge staff finalized plans to create an outdoor classroom and garden space, a space made possible by the PTA. Erika was asked by her administrators if she would help lead a team of teachers in this project. In October, volunteers assembled garden beds, storage sheds, and convertible benches for outdoor learning.

“It was exciting to picture what this would bring to Forest Edge for our students, families, and staff,” Erika said. “When I was asked during the summer to become the Get2Green leader, I thought of all the possibilities for outdoor learning, growing plants, and becoming more connected with nature.”

As a Get2Green leader, Erika has had access to resources to learn more about reducing waste, recycling, composting, and helping the school become more eco-friendly. The Get2Green leader position is new this year and was created to incentivize teachers to develop a culture of sustainability and student-led environmental action at all schools. Erika has formed a green team, led classes in green activities, and started a Green Team after-school club for fifth and sixth graders.

“My most inspiring moment has been seeing our Forest Edge students’ smiling faces as they plant, water, and interact with nature,” Erika said.

Students have planted marigolds, carrots, lettuce, and peas. “One student even shared, ‘This is the first time I’ve ever planted a seed!’ while skipping out to the garden,” she said. “They have loved watering the garden beds, using trowels to loosen the soil, and observing nature with magnifying glasses. Students are also really excited at the prospect of eating the carrots, lettuce, and peas after they grow.”

In addition to working in the garden, sixth graders recently completed a STEM activity to build bamboo trellises for sugar snap peas. “They collaborated to plan, design, and build their trellises and then place them into the garden beds,” Erika said. “They enjoyed building something that will have a lasting impact on our garden.”

The Green Team is working to also beautify the school. After removing leaves and debris from garden beds in front of the school, they plan to plant annual flowers and perennial bulbs, as well as flowers and shrubs native to the area.

“Our Green Team will also set up different bird feeders for our schoolyard birds,” she added. “This May, we also plan to have our kindergartners plant pumpkin seeds. We will harvest them with next year’s kindergarteners. We will also connect with our families to see what types of vegetables and herbs are grown in their home countries. We have so many fun plans to look forward to!”

Kudos to all of our presenters at the Show What You Know Expo! We loved learning about your interests and hobbies. Special thank you to Erika Thompson, Khairina Worthey, and our amazing community of parent volunteers for making it happen.

Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results Coming Soon

FCPS students in grades 3-12 took the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener during March, providing updated information on skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. The SEL Screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported.

In late April, individual student SEL Screener results will be available for families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

Get more information about the screener on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For support in understanding your individual student’s results or ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or contact your student’s teacher or counselor, Sarah Zamfir.

Spring Picture Day - April 16th

What to Expect on Picture Day:

  1. When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
  2. If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
  3. A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
  4. When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.

All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.
